Beautiful

I wrote this song during the second inning of the 2010 Averagebowl, I guess I haven't watched a complete pro-football game in about 6 years now. This song was a set of chords and a melody that had been bouncing around in my head for a couple of weeks. I'm not really sure where it came from, but the more I think about it, the more I want to call it a sanctification song.

Different

After a songwriting night with a few friends that yielded a half finished set of lyrics, Lindsay went home and wrote the words to this song. I had been studying some theory in the key of "C" and was able to write the music to fit Lindsay's words in just a few minutes using all of the triads in the diatonic sequence, C - Dm - Em - F - G - Am - Bdim. I later added the 7th to the Bdim because it sounded really cool. A great song that really doesn't lend itself to corporate worship, but is personally challenging to me.

New Fallen Snow

This song was written one morning after seeing a fresh coat of snow on Mt. Sopris. My thought at the the time was that it was the purest thing I had seen in awhile. It is based on Psalm 51, Isaiah 1:18, and what I was dealing with in my life at the time.

Be Thou My Vision

I don't do many hymns when I play for worship, but this one kind of jumped out at me one day. I sped it up a little bit and had a lot of fun following the base line of the song with chords on the guitar. I added a little tag to the song between the versus to spice it up a bit and with the help my friend Lindsay the lyric drives home the point of the song. I think it works.

Imanu'el

I have been wanting to write a Christmas song for a long time. I was thinking about Philippians Chapter 2 when I started work on this song. I imagined what it was like to leave the side of the Father only to end up surrounded by sheep and guys who had yet to commit to their yearly showers. It is a different sound for me as I throw in a straight 7th chord which I rarely use in my music. I really like it's effect. Merry Christmas!!!

Let This Praise

The idea for this song came from the end of Romans 11 where I have always felt that Paul is stretching to describe God's Soverignty. I tried to stretch and came up with "Unsurpassingly Wonderful" and the rest of the lyrics came out quickly. The bridge didn't exist until I remembered something my sister had written to me about living under God's blessing, so I put that thought into the song as well.

You Rescued Me

This song came out of Psalm 69. I was feeling very much like David must have felt when he wrote about having a broken heart and a sore throat. The song came out of those thoughts.
