Falling / Fallen

Falling / Fallen is a break up song that I wrote a while ago. It uses a chord progression that I have never used before (II,VI,IV,V) in any of my songs, along with a major 7th on the two verses. I had a lot of fun with the music on this one as it's not the same sound as other songs that I have recorded. The guitar solo also sounds different due to the heavy reverb I added. I was going for a smoothly distorted guitar being played in a concrete box (all sorts of cool echos), I think I came close to what I was aiming for.

We Don't Mind

This is a song that I wrote several years ago. I had taken a picture that I was putting up in my house and I thought "I put a picture on my wall, it's of you and me", the rest was just experiential and fell into place quickly. I used a couple of different tenses in the song (on purpose), otherwise it's happy and straight forward. My favorite part is the intro, I recorded maybe 25 different leads to start it off and from the one that I kept it's hard to tell where the song is going.

Wings in the Night

A sad song that I wasn't planning on recording; just one guitar and my vocals, really simple. I wrote it after hearing fluttering wings on one of my late night walks around Carbondale during a summer night. I thought "there has to be a song in that" and so I wrote down everything I was thinking about that night and the next morning picked up a guitar and put music to it. I guess with this song i'm letting people read my journal entries, that's what I get for embarking on this project.

January Drive

I have this thing for love songs... I think that I may write a few too many of them for my own good. There's nothing hidden in this one, just laying out a really good day. I may have gone a little overboard with the Reverb in the final mix. Let me know what you think.

Fogata - Instrumental

I came up with the main theme for this instrumental sitting around a campfire at a State Park near Ridgway, CO. "Fogata" is campfire in spanish, I recorded it for my Dad who is working on a slide show of our family which he is going to show as he visits Columbia for the first time in 25 years this fall. The guitar leads are in the Dorian mode giving the music a really "jazzy" feel.

Sometimes

I had the first couple lines of this song written but hit a long roadblock on where to go with it. My friend Thad called me and let me know he had just proposed to his girlfriend. After that conversation I quickly finished the rest of the lyrics. The song is about Thad and Katelyn and dedicated to them. It's the only 3 chord song that I have written, I recorded a killer acousitc guitar solo (improvised and recorded in 1 pass) to make up for the repetitive nature of the music.
