New Song

A new song is available on the Worship page.  It’s a litte rough as I have been spending some time trying to add too many instruments to some new songs.  Simple, one guitar and a couple of vocal tracks.

New Song

It’s been awhile since I posted a new song, so… I spent a few hours over the last couple of nights recording a song with lyrics written by Lindsay and music by yours truely.  The title is “Different”, download it HERE.

Foster Timms and Nelson Oldham

FOSTER TIMMS:

It was a full weekend of music in and around Carbondale.  Friday night was quiet for me, so I decided to head over to Steves Guitars for to catch the Friday night live music.  The artist was Foster Timms, an LA based singer/songwriter/actor/artistic talent.  Foster played nearly a 2 hour set of original compositions and told a few jokes to lighten the mood (Q: How do you get a songwriter off of your doorstep? A: Pay for the pizza.)

I had a hard time trying to pin down Foster’s style of music other than singer/songwriter.  Maybe if you took Bruce Springsteen infused him with a Gen X attitude and moved him from New Jersey to L.A. you might start to get a feel for his style.

Fosters lyrical work was impressive with cleaver illusions, honesty, and some good depth.   The music on the other-hand was simple and lacking in memorable melody.  However, some of the music did fit the lyrics and mood of the songs quite well.

I hear he also played at The Bistro and Two Rivers in Basalt over the weekend, I would be interested to hear other peoples impressions of his live show.

NELSON OLDHAM:

I also had a chance to catch Nelson Oldham (owner of Dos Gringos Burritos) and his band play at a party over the weekend.  There was a good mix of classic country/rock songs all delivered skillfully by the band.  It was an impressive showing by the group and I would be interested to catch a full show of theirs in the future.

Basalt Summer Concert Series: Frank Martin

The Basalt summer concert series kicked off in June.  For June & July, much like last year, the Basalt Chamber is sponsoring live music in Basalt every Wednesday night.  Last night Frank Martin & The Postmark Band hit the stage in Lions park.  For those unfamiliar with Frank Martin, he has released several independent albums over the years while living and working in the Roaring Fork Valley.  In 2008 I reviewed his album “Postmark”, read the review HERE.

The band opened with Texas train and played a number of Frank Martin originals along with numerous covers.  The band had a decidedly more country tinge than what I have heard from Frank in the past.  However some of the roots music styles had their chances to shine.  It was a great perfromance and an enjoyable listen.  Be sure to check out Frank as he plays in other venues throughout the year.
